Mr. Sherman Frederick 'Big Man' Gerald, 67, of Rockingham, died Thursday, August 4, 2011 in his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 8, in Sandy Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Hinson officiating. Internment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
A lifelong resident of Richmond County, Sherman was born on October 31, 1943 to the late Julius and Lessie Gerald. He worked in property maintenance prior to his retirement. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers Julius Jr., George, Jimmy, Edward, Herman Sr., Bill, and Burman Gerald, and two sisters, Rosa Gerald and Frances Gerald.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gerald; a son, David McCrosky of Hagerstown, MD; a daughter, Pamela Beachum and husband Roger of Marston; five brothers, Talmadge Gerald of Lexington, Ray, Thurman, Johnny Sr., and Jack Gerald all of Rockingham; two sisters, Tina Jones of Donnelly, ID, Gloria Gerald of Rockingham; a granddaughter, Amanda Pate Tillman of Marston; and two great-grandchildren, Kaleigh N. Strickland and Michael Hunter Strickland.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8:00 Pm at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, and other times at the home 740 E. Washington St. Ext., Rockingham.
