Manchester– Roland Provencher, 85, died August 5, 2011 at Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association Hospice House in Concord following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Manchester on November 15, 1925 the son of Edmond and Josephine (Boissonneault) Provencher. He had been a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He was educated in the Manchester school system.
He served his country in the U. S. Navy in World War II. He fought in the European and North African Theatres and was aboard the troop transport ship in the Battle of Anzio, Italy. Following his return from the war he attended accounting and business classes at Hesser Business College.
He was a well known and respected loom fixer in the Waumbec Mills. He was also a custodian for Trinity High School and St. Joseph Regional Junior High School following his retirement. He was most proud of his volunteer work which involved opening the chapel at St. Joseph Cathedral for early morning mass.
He belonged to the League of One Thousand Men at Precious Blood Monastery, was a parishioner of St. Joseph Cathedral, an usher at St George Catholic Church and a generous contributor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife Irene (Glaude) Provencher on December 29, 2008.
Family members include 2 sons, Paul E. Provencher of Barre, VT., Roland L.”Peter” Provencher of Pembroke, 2 daughters, Pauline D. Martineau and Monique C. Provencher both of Manchester,9 grandchildren, one sister, Claire Grandmaison of Epsom and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM in St. Joseph Cathedral.
Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the sisters of the Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104.
