Mrs. Dorothy M. “Dottie” (Barter) Crawford, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved wife of Eugene D. Crawford, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday evening, August 3, 2011. She was 84 years old. Born in Medford on March 28, 1927, she was the beloved daughter of the late Stephen J. and Mary (Morrison) Barter. Dottie was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1945. She had worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant for the Mystic Side Girl Scout Council. Dottie enjoyed going to the theater with her family and traveling with her adored husband, Eugene. Dottie never forgot a birthday or holiday and loved to shop for special gifts for her children, grandchildren and numerous loved ones and presented them in beautifully wrapped packages. She survived three battles with cancer and was an eternal optimist who believed devotion to family and friends is the true meaning of life. Besides her husband, Eugene of 39 years, she will be very sorely missed by her loving children; Susan E. and her husband Kenneth A. Field of Allenstown, New Hampshire, William E. Ring, Jr. of Merrimac, and Janet Ring Strong and her husband Richard T. Strong of Amherst, New Hampshire; step-children, Marion A. and her husband Calvin Meisner of Natick, John E. and his wife Mary E. Crawford of Douglas and Pamela J. Hunt of Holliston; dear sister, Mary Perry of Everett; her school chum and lifelong friend Pat Valentine, special friend Carol Ring and 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Richard A. Ring. Her funeral service was celebrated in the First Community United Methodist Church, 55 Otis St., Medford, Monday, August 8, 2011, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were held Sunday, August 7, 2011, in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, from 4 to 8 PM.
