Obituary

Anthony M. Campo Sr., age 77 of Medford MA, died suddenly at home on Monday February 11, 2002. A Medford resident for the past 4 years, formerly of the North End of Boston.

Born in Everett, MA, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rose (Marchese) Campo. He was a Boilermaker, working with the area’s Locks and Drawbridges, for the Metropolitan District Commission, retiring in the late 1980’s.

Mr. Campo was a lightweight boxer in his early days winning the Diamond Belt and the Golden Glove Competition as an amateur at Dilboy Field in Somerville. As a professional boxer Mr. Campo fought in such places as the Montreal Forum, Madison Square Garden and the Orange Bowl in Miami among other places. Anthony had over 100 professional bouts. He is a member of the Professional Veteran Boxer’s Association.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, Thursday, February 14, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours have respectfully been omitted. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
