Walter C. McConaghy, 48

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Walter C. McConaghy, 48, of Mansfield, formerly of North Quincy, passed away unexpectedly, on Tuesday August 2, 2011, while vacationing with family on Cape Cod. He was the beloved husband of Leslie J. (Agostino) McConaghy, to whom he was married on April 10, 1994.
Born in Boston, MA on May 27, 1963, he was a loving son of Barbara A. (FitzGerald) McConaghy of Quincy and the late Robert E. McConaghy.
Walter grew up and was educated in North Quincy, and was a 1981 graduate of North Quincy High School. He furthered his studies and was a 1985 graduate of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering.
For the past 15 years, he had worked at Materion Technical Materials in Lincoln, Rhode Island where he served as Director of Plant Engineering, Health and Safety. He also had formerly been employed at APV Crepaco in North Attleboro.
His family was the love and focal point of his life. He was an outstanding husband and father and had made his home in Mansfield for the 15 years.
Walters second love in life was the ocean. He grew up around the ocean and loved boating. For the past 14 years he cherished the wonderful times spent vacationing in Pocasset on Cape Cod with his family. He was also an avid sports fan, the New England Patriots being his favorite team.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted and adoring sons: Robert J. McConaghy and Michael C. McConaghy both of Mansfield. He is also survived by his dear sisters: Judith A. Leon and her husband Arthur of Westwood and Janice A. O’Brien and her husband Kenneth of Abington. Additional survivors include his mother in law Sandra Agostino of Mansfield, his sister in law Lynne Lestan and her husband Joseph of Mansfield as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, 2 grand nieces and 1 grand nephew.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday August 9th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday August 8th from 4-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
