Howard "Jim" Spooner Jr., 75, of Derry, NH, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 at his home. Mr. Spooner was born in Lynn, MA on March 26, 1928, a son of the late Howard J. Spooner Sr. and Marjorie (Hayes) Perry. He was a resident of Derry for 54 years, formerly living in Somerville, MA. He was a graduate of Somerville High School. Mr. Spooner served in the US Navy during World War II. He was an active member of the Greeley-Parmenter-Harrington American Legion Post #27 in Londonderry where he served several years as Post Historian. He was also a member of the VFW Post #1617 in Derry. He worked in local shoe factories, Connare Tire in Manchester, and later retired from FS Payne Elevator in Cambridge, MA. Mr. Spooner was a Scoutmaster for Troop #98 in Derry. He was a member of the Spacetown Squares, Floyd Dancers and the Senior Friends at Parkland Medical Center in Derry.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arline R. (Joyce) Spooner of Derry, one daughter, Margaret Bunker and her husband Ralph of Derry, one grandson, James DeLanoy and his wife Heather of Derry, one granddaughter, Arline DeLanoy of Derry, one great-granddaughter, Rachael DeLanoy of Derry, one great-grandson, Alexander DeLanoy of Hope Mills, NC, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter Wanda Spooner in 1954.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18th at 1:00PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 - 8pm.
