WEBSTER – Walter P. Bombardier, 82, formerly of Lake Street, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in Saint Vincent Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Irene A. (Rybacki) Bombardier; 2 sons, Michael P. Bombardier of Norton and Paul J. Bombardier and his wife Sherie of Webster; a daughter, Diane L. Rego of Nashua, NH; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Stefanie, Michael, Janelle and Shannon; a great grandson, Jason, Jr.; a brother, Richard Bombardier of Woonsocket, RI; 2 sisters, Faye Morin of Southbridge and Joanne Dennis of Woonsocket, RI; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, David R. Bombardier of Westboro in 1992, by 2 brothers, Ray and Anatole “Lefty” Bombardier, and by a sister, Theresa Chabot.
He was born and raised in Southbridge, the son of Joseph E. and Elise (St. Martin) Bombardier. He lived in Southbridge before moving to Webster in 1993. He resided at the Life Care Center of Auburn since 2007.
He was an Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving as a sergeant first class. He was awarded the bronze star with a cluster and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Bombardier was an automobile mechanic at Ray’s Service Station in Southbridge and also for the Southbridge Police Department. After retiring, he worked at Park ‘N’ Shop in Auburn.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 5, at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Old Worcester Road. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform military honors at the cemetery. Calling hours are private.
