Obituary

Curtis W. Hunter, 73, of Ocilla, Georgia died Monday, August 1, 2011, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 3, at Pinetta Baptist Church with Rev. David Barton, Rev. Howard Vogan and Rev. Steve Hand officiating. The eulogy will be given by Jimmy Burgess. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the residence, 1470 Tifton Hwy., at 2 PM on Tuesday and remain there until noon Wednesday.

Mr. Hunter was born July 30, 1938 in Irwin County to the late Ernest and Eloise Whitley Hunter. He lived in Irwin County all of his life, attending school in Mystic and Irwin County. Mr. Hunter was a member of Pinetta Baptist Church, serving on the maintenance and grounds committee. A farmer and private pilot, he was known as the Greatest Tobacco Farmer and was named Soil Conservationist of the Year in 1992. Mr. Hunter was known as a perfectionist and what ever he set out to do, he did with all his heart.

He is survived by his wife: Nellie McCrimmon Hunter of Ocilla; daughters: Sheila (Dover) Bishop and Sharon Beall of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Courtnie (Dwain) Parrish, Beth Coleman, Ashley (Justin) Coleman and Joseph Bishop, great grandchildren: Emily Parrish, Kade Parrish, Brodie Coleman, Autumn Coleman and one special one on the way; brothers: Gary (Darnell) Hunter and Gene (Rachael) Hunter of Ocilla; sisters: Maggie (Roger) Cleghorn of Albany, Sandra (Bennie) Bryson of Warner Robins, Linda (Kent) Gray of Hortense and Karen (John) Fennell of Kennesaw; mother of his children: Margie Ross Swanson of Fitzgerald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Hunter and a son-in-law, Charlie Beall.
