Whitman – Jose A. Bairos 73, a resident of Whitman for over 12 years, died Sunday July 31 in his Whitman home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Maria (Figueiredo) Bairos.
Born and raised on Santa Maria Island of the Azores he was the son of the late Joao and Maria (Andrade) Bairos and came to America at the age of 30.
He was a former resident of East Bridgewater, and had worked many years as a talented carpenter and retired as a maintenance supervisor.
He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and “tinkering” around the house, but his greatest joy came from the time spent with his family, traveling with them back to the Azores.
In addition to his beloved wife Maria, he is survived by his loving children Michael Bairos and his wife Gabrielle, Harry Bairos and his wife Jamie and Brenda Figueiredo all of Whitman, his grandson whom he adored Derek Bairos, his brother Antonio Bairos and his wife of Taunton, his brother-in-law Antonio Figueiredo and his wife of East Bridgewater and his sister-in-law Ines Bairos and her husband of West Bridgewater as well as many nieces and nephews.
His services will be held Friday August 5 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Thursday August 4 from 4-8 PM.
