William A. Hamm, age 83
Retired Raytheon Corporation Facilities Manager


TEWKSBURY: William A. "Bill" Hamm, age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for more than 57 years, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Willow Manor in Lowell.
He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. "Peg" (Hunter) (Fairhurst) Hamm, with whom he celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on April 20, 2011, and the late Eileen M. (Teal) Hamm, who passed away on May 5, 1978.
Born in Chelsea on September 2, 1927, he was the son of the late Earl B. Ham and the late Nellie D. (Jaynes) Hamm.
Bill was raised in Cheslea and attended Chelsea schools.
In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II with the Hq. Co, 1st Bn., 187th Gli., Infantry, 11th Airborne Division during the Occupation of Japan.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as the Facilities Manager by the Raytheon Corporation in Bedford, where he worked for over 30 years.
He resided in Tewksbury for 57 years, where he was an active member and supporter of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church.
Bill was a and past Master of Wamesit Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Tewksbury and a District Deputy Grand Master, and given the honorable 33rd Degree. In addition, he was a member of the Aleppo Temple Shrine of Wilmington.
He enjoyed numerous activities including pitching horseshoes, billiards, and playing a round of golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sandra L. Garcia and her husband Michael, Lorraine J. Farrell and her husband David all of Tewksbury, William E. Hamm and his wife Marge of Saco, ME, Richard E. Hamm and his wife Susan of Tewksbury, Margaret C. Donahue and her husband John of Lowell, Patricia J. Polewarczyk and her husband Joseph of Hudson, NH, Penny E. Chandonnet and her husband David of Dracut, John O. Fairhurst and his wife Bunny of Milford and J. Robert Fairhurst and his wife Lisa of Plaistow, NH; two sister, Marie Mullikan and Lucy Lancaster both of Florida; twenty grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Bill was the brother of the late Earl Hamm, formerly of Chelsea.
Calling hours Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 4-8 p.m. (Masonic Service at 7 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m., at the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, 2335 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, 2335 Main St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 or to the Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
