William Alvin Motter, age 80, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at his residence in Tifton, Georgia after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Motter was born on March 21, 1931 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to Beulah Claire Fireman and Fredrick Charles Motter. Mr. Motter has/had four brothers, Bob, Chuck, Clark and Eugene; eight sisters, Alice, Betty, Beulah, Geraldine, Grace, Joyce, Lillian and Velma.
Mr. Motter was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he learned his electronics trade. He later joined IBM machines and was one of the technicians that worked on electronics for the early Apollo missions.
Mr. Motter has two daughters, Lisa and Eugene Gilmore of Tifton, Georgia, and Gina and Davis Shifflett of Culpeper, Virginia. He has two sons, Neil and Darlene Motter of Tifton, Georgia, and William Allen Motter of Wayland, Michigan. Mr. Motter has four grandchildren, Melissa Pagbeleguem of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Joseph Gilmore of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Seth Bargonetti of Richmond, Virginia, and Johnathan Gilmore of Tifton, Georgia. He also has three great-grandchildren, Georgia Imogene Williams, Benjamin Pagbeleguem and Jalen Foster, all of Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Motter was a Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge #43, Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and Knights Templar. He also supported the Virginia State Police as a volunteer for many years. His never ending donation of time and money to help others is a testament to the quality of person that he was.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Hwy., Culpeper, Va. 22701.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Clore-English Chapel with interment to follow in the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery in Culpeper.
