Mrs. Ruby (Frierson) Greene, a resident of West Medford for more than 66 years and formerly of East St. Louis, died at her home on Wednesday morning, July 27, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Oscar H. Greene of Medford. Mrs. Greene was 90 years old.
Born in Patmas, Arkansas, on February 20, 1921, she was the beloved daughter of the late John C. and Gertrude (Smith) Frierson. Mrs. Greene worked as a Tax Examiner for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years. She was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Medford serving on the Altar Guild for more than 30 years and singing in the church choir for more tha 40 years. She was also a member of the Vestry at the church.
In her spare time, Ruby enjoyed gardening around her home and cooking. She also was an avid fund raiser for the Urban League.
Besides her beloved husband, Oscar, she will be sadly missed by her loving son and daughter-in-law; Oscar H. and his wife Marie E. Greene of Londonderry, New Hampshire, sister; Annie Wells of San Fransisco, sisters-in-law of Earlene Frierson of San Fransisco and Jane Lyons of Staton Island, New York, grandchildren; Shawn Greene of New Hampshire and Jeremy Greene of North Carolina and nephew; Gregory Bates of Staton Island, New York.
Her funeral service was celebrated in the Grace Episcopal Church, 160 High St., Medford, Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday, July 29, 2011, from 4 to 7 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
