Florette R. Brown-DeBarros, 79, of New Bedford died July 27, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New York City, the daughter of the late Fred F. and Edna M. (Reynolds) Brown, she lived in New Bedford in her youth and later moved to New York before returning to New Bedford in 2003.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
Florette was formerly employed as a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
She graduated from New Bedford High School in 1950. She later graduated from Montefiore Hospital School of Nursing as a licensed practical nurse, and the Hospital for Joint Diseases and Helene Fuld College of Nursing as a registered nurse .
Florette was a member of the New Bedford N.A.A.C.P. and the Martha Briggs Educational Club.
She enjoyed going on day trips and attending luncheons with friends. Special friend Darlene Berg accompanied her as she ran her various daily errands.
She is survived by cousins Joan Criswell, Pat Wright, Winifred Hodge, Norma Carter, Roland Carter, Betty Knowles, Harriet Ollivierre, Phyllis Applegate, Douglas Roberts, their spouses and their children.
Her visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd from 12-2 PM followed by her Funeral Service at 2 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
