Obituary

Edwin Maston Sherley, 80, of New Bedford died Monday July 25, 2011 at BayState Medical Center in Springfield. He was the husband of Thelma L. (Stroud) Sherley.

Born in Bolivar, Tennessee, the son of the late George and Roxie (Jones) Sherley, he lived in New Bedford during the 1950s and 1960s. He later lived in Tennessee for 20 years before returning to New Bedford in 1990.

He was a member of the United House of Prayer for All People, where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Sherley was formerly employed as a waiter at restaurants in Kentucky.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diana D. Boyd of New Bedford and Betty Hudson of Bolivar; two sisters, Lydia Davidson of Detroit and Ruby McTizic of Bolivar; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

His Homegoing Service will be held on Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 8 PM at the United House of Prayer for All People, 419 Kempton St., New Bedford. Viewing at the House of Prayer prior to the service from 7-8 PM. Funeral procession will leave the House of Prayer on Thursday August 4, 2011 at 8:45 AM for a Committal service with military honors at the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne at 9:45 AM.
