Mrs. Emma Lee Strickland Mabe, 81, of Rockingham, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with her family by her side. She has gone to be with Jesus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 29, in the Hope Bible Free Will Church of Worship, Hwy. 381, Hamlet, with Pastor Tommy Leviner, Rev. Buzz Hill, and Rev. Marvin Hutchinson officiating. Internment will follow in the Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery in Rockingham.
Emma was born March 8, 1930, daughter of the late Pete and Lucy Strickland. She married Hobart Monroe Mabe in 1948, and retired from Wade Mill after 19 years of service. She was a member of the Hope Bible Free Will Church of Worship and loved serving the Lord and cooking for her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart in 1985, a brother James 'Bo' Strickland, and a sister, Rosa Love.
She leaves behind three sons and daughters-in-law, Hobart Mabe, Jr. and wife Nancy of Rockingham, Gerald Mabe and wife Elaine of Hamlet, Carlton Mabe and wife Jenni of Laurinburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Perdue and husband Tommy of Rockingham; two brothers, Lonnie Strickland of Rockingham and Edmund Strickland of Asheboro; two sisters, Betty Parks and Jane Strickland both of Hamlet; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 at Hope Bible Free Will Church of Worship and other times at the home of Gerald and Elaine Mabe, 121 Vine Drive, Hamlet.
