Lola Mae Smith McGee, 91, of Ben Hill County died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Ashburn Health Care Center in Ashburn, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 29, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Chad O’Quinn officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. McGee was born October 20, 1919 in Fitzgerald to the late Lonnie L. Smith and the late Alice McDaniel Smith McGee. She was a homemaker and lived in Ben Hill and Irwin counties most of her life. Mrs. McGee was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Abbeville. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved gardening and cooking for her family and friends.
Mrs. McGee is survived by her children: William (Barbara) McGee of Fitzgerald, Inez (Cecil) Rhodes of Albany, Margaret Hunter of Fitzgerald and Velma (Gene) Hasty of Ashburn; 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren; sister: Annette Griffin of Byron as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip McGee, daughter, Frances McEachern, sons-in-law, Bud Hunter and Alton McEachern, grandson, Gerald Rhodes, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
