
Peabody: Edward J. Provencher, age 78, died peacefully in his sleep at home in Peabody, on Thursday, July 21, 2011. He was the devoted husband of Alice M. (Dossett) Provencher, with whom he had shared 59 years of marriage, and who passed away May 8th of this year.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Louis and Agnes (LaBonte) Provencher. Married to Alice in 1952, the couple lived in Salem until they moved to Peabody in 1973. Ed was an auto mechanic for Holden Oil Co. on Lynnfield Street in Peabody until his retirement in 1990. An avid sportsman, he was a member of the North American Hunting and Fishing Club and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by a son, Louis E. Provencher and his wife Janice of John Day, OR, 2 daughters, Deborah A. Woodman and her husband John of Belmont, NH, Bessie C. Rideout of Columbus, GA, 2 sisters, Agnes Orlowski and her husband Chet of Salem, Patricia Wood and her husband Tom of Arizona, 5 grandchildren, Tracy & Michael Woodman, Amanda, Christopher & Kyle Rideout. He is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, Donovan, Faith, Mickayla & Scott, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Robert L. and Frank Provencher.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by his funeral service in the funeral home at 1:00 pm.
