TEWKSBURY - Florence A. Heider, age 87, an active member of the St. William's Church community, died Sunday afternoon, July 24, after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife and constant companion of William A. Heider Jr., who died in 1998.
She was born in Winchester, May 15, 1924, one of eleven children of the late Michael and Mary (Dunnigan) Geoghegan. She was raised in Winchester, and graduated from Winchester High School. She moved to Tewksbury in 1963 to raise her family. For the past two years she had been in residence at Methuen Village in Methuen.
She began her working career at Shawmut Bank, where she worked as a secretary. She resigned after ten years to raise her family, and resumed her outside career at the I.R.S. in Andover, from where she retired after 22 years of service.
She was an active member at St. William's Parish in Tewksbury, attended Bingo at St. William's, the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, and the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed cribbage at the Tewksbury Senior Center, day trips to the Connecticut Casinos, and was a life-long Red Sox fan.
She is survived by a son, William Heider of Minnesota, two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Michael Burke and Cheryl and Kenneth Guerin all of Tewksbury; two grandchildren, Mindy Burke and David Guerin; three sisters, Margaret DuLong of Woburn, Barbara Carlburg of FL, Mildred Schroeder of No. Chelmsford; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Geoghegan of Wakefield, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also mother of the late Karen Frances Heider; and sister of the late Patrick Gagan, James Geoghegan, John Geoghegan, Thomas Geoghegan, Helen Bruno, Catherine LaDelfe, and Mary Abreu.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, July 28, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery.
