DUDLEY - Leona G. “Lee” (Szymanski) McCann, 96, of Dudley, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, in the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard Hospital with her children at her side.
Her husband of 56 years, Francis D. McCann, died in 1993.
She leaves a son, William F. McCann of The Villages, FL; 2 daughters, Maureen L. Johnson of Dudley and Debra L. Phelps of Manchester, CT; 8 grandchildren, Julie Milios, David McCann, Jeffrey Johnson, Kelly Cusson-Malone, Kimberly Provencal, and Jonathan, Kasey and Ryan Phelps; 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.
She was born and raised in Webster, the daughter of William and Julianne (Schur) Szymanski and lived in Dudley since 1951. She was a graduate of Bartlett High School.
Mrs. McCann first worked as an inspector at B & W Footwear in Webster. She then became a CNA and worked for many years at Oakwood Nursing Home in Webster before retiring.
She was a devout member of Saint Louis Church in Webster and enjoyed watching the daily Mass on television. She was an avid reader and excelled at cooking and baking. The center of her life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, July 27, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 26, in the funeral home.
