Providence, RI…. David W. Smith, 82, husband of Dorothy L. (Macomber) Smith, of Rogers Lane, Chace Point, Little Compton, passed away Wednesday after a brief illness at the Veterans Medical Center.
He was the son of the late James H. and Lucy (Potter) Smith. He was born in Dartmouth and resided there prior to moving to Windsor, CT, then moving to Little Compton in 1969.
A WWII veteran of both the U.S. Army and Navy, Mr. Smith worked as an Engineer Inspector for General Electric in Windsor, CT until his retirement. He was a 1939 graduate of Dartmouth High School and also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Connecticut and he attended day care at Westport Council on Aging.
Survivors including his wife are 2 daughters: Marcia G. Benjamin of Copperas Cove, TX and Pamela J. Manchester of Little Compton; a brother: Richard Smith of Dartmouth; a sister: Eunice Sylvia of Dartmouth; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was also the brother of the late James H. Smith.
At the request of the family funeral services will be private.
