Obituary

WOODSTOCK, CT- Frederick L. “Sonny” Meyer, 79, of Tripp Road, formerly of Oxford, MA, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. His wife of 39 years, Lillian J. (Cournoyer) Meyer, died in 1993.

He leaves a son, Fred K. Meyer and his wife Stephanie of Oxford, MA; 4 daughters, Audrey D. LaFlamme and her husband Wayne of Putnam, Jo Anne L. Boyle and her husband Timothy, and Kimberly D. Hoard and her husband Thomas, all of Woodstock, and Jacquelyn T. Whitmore and her husband Mark of Lake Wales, FL; a sister, Mary Lane of Paris, ME; a brother, Richard Meyer of Dudley, MA; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; nephews and nieces.

He was born and raised in Dudley, MA the son of Paul and Alma (Billings) Meyer. He lived in Oxford, MA for many years before moving to Woodstock in 2003.

He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded five bronze stars and the silver star for his bravery.

Mr. Meyer first owned and operated Fred’s Auto Body in North Oxford and then Fairlawn Motors in Oxford, MA for many years before he retired in 1999. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oxford.

He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He was a devout fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 22, in the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, MA. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Oxford, MA. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery.Calling hours are from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, July 21, in the funeral home.
