Blake Van Hoof Packard 16, of Provincetown and Sarasota, FL died Thursday July 14, 2011 following injuries he sustained after being hit by a car as he walked his bike along Route 6 in Provincetown. Born in Sarasota on May 1, 1995, he was the son of Johannes “Joop” Van Hoof of Sarasota and Leslie Packard of Sarasota and Provincetown and the grandson of Anne Packard of Provincetown. Blake spent his summers with his family in Provincetown and was an avid sailor spending much of his time at the West End Racing Club. He had just started a life-saving course at Marconi beach and was working in two art galleries the family maintains in Provincetown. He was about to begin his junior year at Sun Coast Polytechnical High School in Sarasota. He was a kindhearted young man who had countless friends of all ages in both Provincetown and Sarasota.
Besides his parents and grandmother he is survived by his 2 brothers, Stephen and Joper and his sisters Skie and Janna Van Hoof, his 2 aunts, Cynthia Packard of Provincetown, Susan Packard and his uncle Michael Packard of Provincetown. He is also survived by his cousins, Zachary, Silas Caleb, Emma, Benjamin, Rebecca, Jacob and Josiah and his nieces Jessica, Amy and Ashley Johnson. Blake enjoyed a quiet appreciation for what life offered but the special connection he shared with his mother was unsurpassed. Services were held in Provincetown on Friday July 22, 2011 at the home of his aunt. In Florida, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 912 63rd Avenue, Bradenton.
