Nellie Reid Lucas, age 99, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born February 23, 1912 in Rockingham County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Jim Lucas and Callie Vaughan Lucas. She lived most of her life in the Pelham community. She was married to Robert Lindsey Lucas. Mrs. Lucas was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four daughters: Barbara Lucas Massey and Bessie Lucas Salmon of Danville, Elizabeth Lucas Fuller of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Dorothy Lucas Myers of Pelham, N.C.; two sons: Robert Lucas of Danville, and Herbert Lucas of Salter Path, N.C.; and many grandchildren. In addition to her parents as well as her husband, she is predeceased in death by all of her brothers and sisters and four children: Mildred Massey, Thelma Myers, Lousie Hatcher, and Lindsey Lucas. The family would also like to send special thanks to all caretakers, special friends and neighbors of Mrs. Lucas.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Michael Myers will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairgrove United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1735 Cunningham Mill Road, Reidsville, N.C., 27320. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and at other times, will be at the residence, 168 Garden Grove Street, Danville, VA.
