William D. "Soupy" Campbell, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Friday, July 15, 2011 at his home in Charlestown after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.
Soupy was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1954 and served his country proudly and honorably during the Korean Conflict. Soupy worked as a warehouseman for many years and was a member of Teamsters Union Local # 25. He was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.
Soupy is the beloved husband of Anne M. (Almeida-Doherty) Campbell. He is the devoted father of William Doherty and his wife Nancy of Chelmsford and Marilyn Daly and her husband Kieran of Norwood. He is the loving Grandfather of Rory, Kaitlyn and Kelsey Doherty, Gillian and Jarrod Daly. He is the beloved brother of Philip Campbell and his wife Mary of South Boston, Jean Sullivan and her husband Jack of Charlestown and the late Joan Mahan and Paul Campbell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for Soupy on Monday, July 18, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Funeral Services will be private and his burial at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
