NEW BEDFORD — Stephen T. Shores, age 88 years, of Dartmouth, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Mena (Souza) Shores.
The son of the late Frederick A. and M. Beulah (Howland) Shores, he was born in New Bedford and was a graduate of Dartmouth High School Class of 1940.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of the Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Blood and Fire 63rd Division Association.
Over the years he was employed by the former Gulf Hill Dairy and then Com Electric until his retirement in 1987. His great joy was family and gardening.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Diane Shores, Linda Clarke and Kathy Holstein; his grandchildren, Rebecca and Amy Clarke; his sister-in-law, Mary Souza; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Philip Shores; and brother of the late Hester Howe.
His service will take place on Tuesday, July 19th in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford at 11 A.M. It is suggested remembrances be made in his name to the charity of one's choice. Burial with military honors is private for family only.
