McWHORTER - Jesse B. “Mac” McWhorter, 96, passed away Friday morning, July 15, 2011 at his Yulee, FL residence. He was born November 2, 1914 in Angelo TX and moved to Yulee in 1992 from Punta Gorda, FL.
Mr. McWhorter was retired from the Agency for International Development, a division of the U. S. State Department, where he was employed as a financial advisor. He was a World War II veteran serving with the U. S. Navy. Mr. McWhorter was a member of the Jax Rambling Sams Club and together with his wife, Evelyn, before her death in 2002, travelled extensively in their RV. He was a very intelligent man and enjoyed boating, fishing and golf. When he was younger he played saxophone with jazz bands.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, and a daughter, Patricia Hinchcliff.
Survivors include four daughters, Joan Wigglesworth (Zeke) of Poulsbo, WA, Linda Barnes (Bobby) of Yulee, FL, Ellen Ellerker (Frank), also of Yulee, and Sharon Johnson (Lamar) of Jacksonville, FL; two sons, Arthur Mims (Terri) of LaGrange, KY and Joe Mims (Debbie) of Jacksonville, FL; 15 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Remembrance Mausoleum at Green Pine Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. Monday until the time of service.
