Lawrence E. Hillson, a life long resident of Wilmington passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Thursday, July 14th. He was 89 years of age. Larry was the beloved husband of the late Ann Marie (Mackey). Born in Boston on February 8, 1922 he was one of five children of the late Harold L. and Mary G. (Clancy) Hillson.
Larry was a retired truck mechanic and worked for 37 years with the Refrigerated Truck Bodies Co. of Woburn. He also proudly served with the United States Army; Cannon Company 323rd Infantry Regiment, during WWII in the Southern Philippines and the Western Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post 136, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2458 and was active with the Wilmington Senior Center.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Kathleen Lamontagne and her husband Robert of Wilmington. Granddaughters, Toni Marie Wheelock of Amesbury and Gloria Ann Wheelock of Billerica. He is further survived by his brothers, Arthur Hillson of Florida and Harold Hillson of Kentucky. In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Claire Lazacchi, and brother, George Hillson.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Monday, July 18th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 7. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
