WORCESTER-Lorraine I. (Roy) Sweeney, 83, of 35 Florence Street died Tuesday, February 10th in Saint Vincent Hospital after an illness. Her first husband James J. Foyle died in 1943 and her second husband John J. Sweeney died in 1985. She leaves 4 sons James J. Foyle of N. Brookfield, William M. Sweeney of Worcester, John J. Sweeney, Jr. of New Market, MD and Mark A. Sweeney of Southbridge, 3 daughters Kathleen M. St. Germain of Springfield, VA, Barbara L. Sargent of Worcester and Nancy J. Mannion of Northborough, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. 2 brothers Louis Roy and Joseph Hector Roy and 2 sisters Mathilda “Tillie” Brown and Georgianna “Georgie” Lavoie predeceased her.
She was born in Burlington, VT the daughter of Hector H. and Mary Caroline “Carrie” (Charbonneau) Roy and graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1938. Mrs. Sweeney was a homemaker who worked as a shipper and receiver for the Zayre Corporation for 19 years, until her retirement in 1986. In her retirement she worked for the Worcester Public Library, Talking Books Program. Mrs. Sweeney volunteered for Jeremiah’s Inn as part of the R.S.V.P. Program, she was a member of St. Peter’s Church Ladies Guild and served on their annual children’s Christmas party committee, a member of AARP and a member of St. Paul Elementary School Parents Club.
The funeral is Friday, February 13th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, February 12th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
