Obituary

Vincent G. Holland, 93, of Brockton, died peacefully, July 11, 2011 at South East Rehabilitation following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband for nearly 60 years of Dorothy E. (Lendh) Holland. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late John V. and Martha (Kranfress) Holland. He attended schools in Quincy, and graduated from Quincy High School in 1935. He also attended Boston University and Suffolk University. Before entering the Marine Corps in 1942, he was in business with his father in Real Estate.

His Marine Corps duty took him to many areas – Boot camp at Parris Island, SC, Philadelphia Navy Yard, Washington DC, Quantico, VA, and Berkley, CA with the V-12 unit. His overseas duty took him to Quam via the SS Wakefield and SS Gen Hughes to Okinawa and then to Tientsin, China. He served overseas with Weapons Co. 7th Marines 1st Marine Division. His rank was 1st S. Sergeant and he was discharged in Bainbridge, MA in 1946.

After returning to civilian life he moved to Brockton where he worked in the insurance business before going to work for New England Telephone Company. He was an active life member of VFW Post 1046, serving as Quartermaster for 20 years and member of the Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers and the Vega Club men’s bowling league. A communicant of St. Ann’s Church, he also enjoyed walking, working in his yard, and traveled extensively throughout the United States.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters Barbara H. Moody and her husband Paul of Marion and Linda Holland Simpson and her husband Danny of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and grandson Christopher Simpson of NC. He was the brother of the late Sister Helena Holland, SND.

Visiting hours in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 4-7 PM. Funeral procession forming Friday at the funeral home at 8:00AM followed by a funeral mass in St Ann Church, W. Bridgewater at 9:00AM. Burial with military honors in Melrose Cemetery.
