John J. Lillis, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Monday, July 11, 2011 at his home in Charlestown following an extended illness. He was 76 years old.
John was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools. John worked for several years at B&M Railroad. He has worked on the Boston waterfront as a Longshoreman for many years and is a member of the International Longshoreman's Union Local # 799. He retired in 1987. John also played for several years for the Charlestown Townies Football Team and was a former member of The Halligan Club.
John is the beloved husband of Barbara (O'Neil) Lillis. He is the devoted father of Margaret V. Lillis of Charlestown and John P. Lillis of Charlestown. He is the beloved brother of Kathleen Ells of Stoneham and the late Joseph, Mary, Norma and Paul Lillis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's visiting hours on Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 a.m. Cremation will take place following his funeral mass.
