Obituary

John J. "Jack" Leary, Jr., 88, of Marion, formerly of Milton and Worcester, died July 10, 2011 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Eileen M. (Griffin) Leary; the devoted father of Mary Hadley and her husband Mark of Marion, John J. Leary III and his wife Joanne Lukaszewicz of Mystic, CT, and the late Anne M. Leary of Milton; and the devoted grandfather of Andrew Hadley of Marion. He was the son of the late John J. and Mary C. (Mahoney) Leary of Worcester, and brother of the late Thomas Leary of Worcester and Christine Wells of Port Charlotte, FL.

Jack was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, class of 1944, and received his MBA from Boston University. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Quartermaster's Corps in Paris and England.

Jack taught at St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia, was employed in Personnel at Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Quincy and Itek Corporation in Lexington, and was the Associate Director of Management Development for Northeastern University in Boston until his retirement in 1986.

For many years, Jack served on the President's Council of Holy Cross, was an active member of the Boston Catholic Men's Sodality, and past president of the Boston Chapters of the American Society for Training and Development and the Society for the Advancement of Management. He was a former chaperone of the Milton Youth Club and committee member of the Milton Youth Club Scholarship Committee. He served on the North High (Worcester) Class of 1940 Reunion Committee for many years.

Jack loved his family and friends and was a true gentleman. He was a man of great faith. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in Acushnet and a longtime parishioner of St. Agatha Church in Milton.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet. Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Francis Xavier Parish Building Fund, 125 Main St., Acushnet, MA 02743.
