Obituary

Samuel Edward McCain of Pope, MS passed away July 9, 2011 at the Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley, MS. Sam was born on December 13, 1942 in Taylor, MS to the late William Elton and Ivy Mae Murchison McCain. He retired from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. Sam was a Mason - Past Master, Valley City Lodge #402 and Banner Lodge #329, Past presiding officer, all York Rite bodies (Water Valley, MS), 32 degree K.C.C.H. Scottish Rite Mason (Clarksdale, MS), Past Sovereign; Red Cross of Constantine, Allied Masonic degrees, Hamasa Shrine, Past Excellent Chief, Knight Mason, Rosicruciana, York Rite College. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Water Valley MS Lodge #82 and a member of Taylor Baptist Church. Sam was a collector of watches, railroad and masonic memorabilia. He loved bluegrass and old style country music. He was a history buff, and he enjoyed studying the Bible. Sam loved animals, was an animal rights activist, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until service time on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Roger Webb officiating. Burial will take place in Yocona Cemetery in Lafayette County with Allen Hunter, Josh Parish, Sidney Shoffner, Patrick Peacock, Steve Shuffield, Joel Person and Bubba Person serving as pallbearers.

Sam is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Marie McCain of Memphis, TN; and two brothers, James Elton "Butch" McCain (Sharon) of Granby, MO and Charles Arthur McCain (Lynda) of Taylor, MS.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth McCain; one son, Clyde Lee McCain; one daughter, Cecelia Morgan McCain and two sisters, Mary Kathryn Hudson and Janet Marie Person.
