Joan H. Silva, 79

Joan H. (Fitzpatrick) Silva, 79, of Norton, passed away on Saturday July 9, 2011 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the beloved wife of retired GYSGT. Joseph H. Silva USMC, to whom she was wed on March 2, 1953.
Born in Boston, MA on November 24, 1931, she was a loving daughter of the late John and Helen (Comber) Fitzpatrick.
Joan was raised in Canton and was educated in parochial schools. She furthered her studies and was a graduate of the Burdett School of Business in Boston.
Mrs. Silva had been employed for over 20 years for the U.S. Department of Defense in Boston and at the time of her retirement held the position of Chief, Defense Investigative Services.
A resident of Norton for the past 42 years, Joan enjoyed caring for her family and will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her beloved husband of over 58 years, she is survived by her devoted children Carol A. Silva-Scheets and her husband Michael of Marstons Mills, Barry “Joe” Silva and his wife Marilyn of South Attleboro and Ellen G. Silva of Plainville. She was the cherished grandmother of Joanna Wesley and her husband “CJ” of North Kingstown, RI and the late Andy Silva, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday July 14th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 13th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Nine Lives of Norton Feline Rescue Shelter, Inc., 84 Hill St., Norton, MA 02766.
