Robert R. Fender, Jr., age 77, of Douglas, GA passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA following an extended illness. Mr. Fender was born on June 25, 1934 in Lowndes County, GA and he was reared by Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Sims. Mr. Fender was retired from Fender Chevrolet; he was a member of the Lions Club (Quitman), Rotary Club (Douglas), Society of Sales for Chevrolet, past chairman of Board of Ameris Bank, Douglas Chamber; President of Douglas Golf Club and Men’s Golf Association and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Quitman, GA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 09, 2011 at First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in the Douglas City Cemetery. Survivors include: wife: Kathryn J. Fender, Douglas, GA; sons: Rusty (Carol) Fender, Douglas, GA; Jeff (Kathy) Fender, Tifton, GA; Dana (Hope) Fender, Douglas, GA; sister: Lois (Tommy) Barrs, Quitman, GA; grandchildren: Russ Fender, Caroline Fender, Dale Fender, Ansley Fender, Will Fender, Austin Fender, Andrew Fender and Evan Fender; great grandson: Trenton Fender; niece: Betty Lee Medina; nephew: Thomas Barrs. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 09, 2011 at Sims Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Boys Scouts of America, Georgia Sheriffs Boys Ranch, Lowndes County or St. Jude’s Children Hosptial.
