Donald E. Garrity, 88, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 7, 2011 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton.
Born in Norton, MA on December 17, 1922, he was a loving son of the late Patrick and Mary (Dion) Garrity.
Donald grew up and was educated in Norton. A retired Cook, Mr. Garrity had been employed for 21 years at the former Fernandes Supermarket in Norton prior to retiring.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Donald was an original member of the Norton Singers and the Chaminade Group. For 20 years he was an active volunteer at Morton Hospital and Morton Home Care and was a recipient of the “Volunteer of the Year Award” for his many years of faithful service. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends and held a special place in his heart for animals.
He is survived by his devoted niece Denise M. Cochran with whom he made is home in Norton, his nephews Kevin M. Marchant of Kent, Washington and Keith A. Marchant of Attleboro. The dear brother of the late Robert L. Garrity, Marguerite C. Garrity and Louise M. Marchant, he is also survived by his faithful companion “George Clooney”
Private services will be held at the convenience of his family. Visiting hours are omitted and private burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Cemetery, Taunton.
