Iris Dolores Carter Hylton, age 77, of 537 Hylton Lane, Dry Fork, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 28, 1934 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Redmond Carter and Louise Megginson Carter. She graduated from Brosville High School and later married Lawrence Emerson Hylton, with whom she enjoyed a life farming and as a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of the home; one daughter: Lou Ellen Merricks and her husband Joseph C. Merricks of Dry Fork; four sons: Lawrence Hylton, Jr. and his wife Robin, Keith Hylton and his wife Linda, Phillip Hylton and his wife Brenda, and Anthony Hylton and his wife Virginia, all of Dry Fork; one sister: Barbara ”Bobbie” Shumate of Danville; sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Robert R. Carter, Jr. and Edward “Frank” Carter.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. E. Russell Gresham, IV will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in the Hylton Family Cemetery in Dry Fork. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 8, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence, 537 Hylton Lane, Dry Fork, VA.
