Ruverna Lawson Sturges, 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, July 1st, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She now joins her beloved husband, Clarence Sturges in peace and happiness. Ruverna was born in Lawsonville, North Carolina, on May 8, 1913, the daughter of Emma Eliza (Spencer) and Frank Lee Lawson. She was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, NC making her the first in her family to graduate from college. Ruverna went on to become a successful business woman as a tailor in the celebrity communities of New York and Hollywood. She spent most of her adult life in Connecticut where she started her career and raised her family. Her hobbies included walking, gardening and an avid reader of thousands of novels. Surviving are her daughters, Diane and husband, David Zerr of Oregon, Malissa Sturges, of New York, Carol Bryan, of Connecticut and Elizabeth Sturges and husband, Howard Grobstein of New Jersey, her son, William and wife Mary Sue Sturges, of Harrisburg, PA, Two Sisters, Ruthie Tucker, of South Carolina and Rachel Martin, of North Carolina, 9 Grandchildren, Lloyd Moore, Pam and husband Dennis Curtis, Danielle Zerr and husband Dimitria Christakia, David and wife Lars Zerr, Beth Bryan-Almeida, Scott Grobstein, Amy Sturges and husband Robert Powell, Laura and husband Sean Rosler and Adam and wife Danielle Sturges, 12 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her brothers, Clyde, Carvis, Greet, Namaan and Robert Lawson. Ruverna will always be loved and missed by all those she touched with her love, wisdom and laughter. Services and Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruverna’s name to Homeland Center, 1901 North 5th Street, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110 all gifts would be deeply appreciated.
