
WORCESTER- Thomas J. Cleary, 84, of Worcester died at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Helen (O’Neill) Cleary; two sons, Joseph P. Cleary and his wife, Ann of West Boylston and Lawrence T. Cleary and his wife, Lori of San Diego, CA; twin daughters, Kathleen G. Tighe and her husband, Dennis of Sutton and Maureen M. Cleary and her spouse, Theresa Neaz of Uxbridge; a sister, Alice Metros of Leominster; 11 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his siblings, Elizabeth Lund, Catherine Whalen, Gordon Cleary, Albert Cleary, M. Mildred Cleary, Joan Lucas, Helen Casavant and Mary Keeney.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Thomas J. and Mary (McGrath) Cleary. Tom was a Master Electrician and worked for Wyman Gordon, Snyder's Beef Company and TJ Maxx, retiring at the age of 70. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II. Mr. Cleary was a member of the American Legion Main South Post 341 and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, countless summers boating on Webster Lake and the time he spent with his family. His Irish heritage and large extended family were a source of great joy. He took special delight in the accomplishments of his grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, staff and especially the Hospice Team of Saint Vincent Hospital/Metro West and Life Care Center of Auburn for their loving care. Special thanks are extended to his neighbors for their friendship, helping hands and kindness over the years.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 7th with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
