…USMC Veteran of two wars, retired from Brox Construction; 85
TEWKSBURY - Gerard J. St. Louis, age 85, died Saturday evening, July 2, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell, after a lengthy period of declining health. He was the husband of Mary L. (Miranda)(Donahue) St. Louis, with whom he wed in 1973.
He was born in Lowell, May 29, 1926, a son of the late Eugene and Jeanne (Leblanc) St. Louis. He was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and served in the Marine Antiaircraft Detachment aboard the USS Wisconsin in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945, and re-enlisted into Marines at the outbreak of the Korean War. He was a member of the Tewksbury Post 8164 of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
Gerard was an avid golfer, loved to travel, and enjoyed time with his family. His Catholic faith was also important to him, with a particular love for the Devine Mercy devotion.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Richard St. Louis and his wife Catherine of Nashua, NH, Andrew St. Louis and Raymond St. Louis, both of Lowell, three stepchildren, Jack and Carol Donahue of Wilmington, Maureen and Francis Avery of FL, and Thomas and Mary Donahue of Hudson, NH; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; two sisters, Lillian Grieco of Tyngsboro; and Jeanne Panneton of Merrimack, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Donald St. Louis and brother of the late Maurice St. Louis.
Following his cremation, relatives and friends will be received Friday evening, July 8, from 4 to 7 in the funeral home. A Memorial Mass was celebrated Saturday, July 9, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury, with Fr. Richard St. Louis, celebrant. Burial with U.S.M.C honors followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311, will be appreciated.
