Obituary

Salem: Robert G. Lemelin, age 85 of Salem, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the NSMC / Union Hospital in Lynn, following a long illness. He was the son of the late Archille and Florence (Levesque) Lemelin.

Born and raised in Salem, Bob joined the Army at the age of 18 and served in France where he wounded in action, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked in the leather and shoe manufacturing industry of greater Salem. Bob was a religious man and life long member of Ste. Anne Parish of Salem.

He is survived by 4 sons, Robert E. Lemelin, Ret. Salem Fire Dept. and his wife Carolann H. of Salem, Richard N. Lemelin and his wife Linda of Salem, Michael B. Lemelin of Taunton, Charles C. Lemelin and his wife Julie of Gales Ferry, CT, 2 daughters, Diane L. Zubiel of Raymond, NH, Laurie C. Chouinard of Salem, 3 sisters, Florence L. “Blanche” McCulley & Theresa Y. Faulling both of Salem and Jeannette Johnson of Danvers. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Desire, Hector and Victor and a sister Helen Page.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
