Vicki Renee Burns-Segal

The Burns family mourns the death of Vicki Renee Burns-Segal, a beloved daughter, sister and inspiration to all she encountered. She possessed an inner warmth and beauty that radiated from her gentle brown eyes and infectious signature laugh. Renee, as she was known to most, displayed true Christian kindness in her tireless efforts as a mentor to the youth she encountered and was a strong advocate against Domestic Violence.
Renee was a devout Jehovah’s Witness who gained peace and solace through her faith.
Renee was a resident of Renton, Washington who graduated in 1979 from New Bedford High School. In 2000, she graduated from Sinclair Community College of Nursing located in Ohio.
Her academic achievements included Sinclair Community College Student Nurses Association Leadership Award, African-American Leadership Award, National Business and Professional Women's Foundation - New York Life Scholarship, Virgil C. Kitchen President Club Scholarship Award, Robin Smith Memorial Nursing Scholarship Award, Lena Schneider Minority Nursing Scholarship Award, Montgomery County Medical Society Alliance Scholarship Award, Dayton Black Nurses Association Scholarship Award, and the Frederick C. Smith Nursing Scholarship Award.
Renee is survived by her parents Bernice Burns-Artis and Benjamin S. Burns Sr.; five brothers, Benjamin S. Burns Jr., Bruce W. Burns, Kevin A. Burns, Eddie Riddick and Nin S. Burns; four sisters, Jennifer M. Jones, Dolly D. Burns, Luna L. Burns, and Desiree Brathwaite; her uncles and aunts Ed and Ada Harvey and Jimmie Williams Sr. and Rose Marie Williams; along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A genuine compassion enveloped Renee’s being and touched all in her presence. The amber glow of Renee’s love will burn forever in the hearts and memories of her family and cherished friends.
