Paul O. Gardner, Sr. 62, of Whitman died suddenly on Tuesday June 28th at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 31 years to Patricia E. (Wentworth) Gardner.
He was the loving son of Thelma (Hicks) Gardner of Halifax and the late Russell H. Gardner.
Paul was raised in Hanson and Whitman, where he remained a life long resident, and he was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, Class of 1968.
He was a proud veteran of Vietnam having served in the US Air Force from 1968-1972.
He worked for Shaw’s Supermarkets in the Deli Department for 15 years, predominantly in the Hanson store.
Paul enjoyed his vegetable garden, fishing, reading and mostly being with his family.
In addition to his wife Patricia and his mother, he is survived by his children Paul O. Gardner, Jr. of Whitman, Lori Gardner of East Bridgewater, Cindy Gagnon of Plymouth, Kate Brownell of Dexter, NY, Jim Lewis of Plymouth, and Kim Hardy of Whitman, his brothers Warren of Pembroke, and John and Russell of Whitman, his sister April Gardnerdoyle of Taunton, and his brother-in-law Gary Wentworth of Whitman. He was the grandfather of Malcolm Andrade, Danielle, Kyle and Matthew Brownell, Margeaux and Monique Gagnon, Nicole and Brian Lewis, Cameron Allen and Gavin Hardy. He is survived by many nieces and nephews: also his best friends Henry Cunningham of Whitman and Robert Chase of Rockland. He was the brother of the late George Gardner and June Blodgett.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to the family Wednesday July 6 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, 214 Main St., Hanson, MA. Interment will be on Friday July 8 at 10:00 AM at the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman.
