George E. Sousa, Sr., 87, of Derry, NH died Wednesday June 29, 2011 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry. Mr. Sousa was born in Lawrence, MA on February 20, 1924 a son of the late Manuel and Jennie Sousa. He was educated in Lawrence before serving with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sousa was employed for Converse Tyer Rubber Co. in Andover, MA for 30 years and later retired in 1986 from Digital Corp. where he worked as a security guard. He had resided in Windham for 30 years. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren, having raised his five children following his wife's death in 1966. He also enjoyed shooting pool and was an animal lover.
He is survived by his three sons, Roland Sousa and his wife Mary of Apopka, FL, George Sousa, Jr. of Derry, Paul Sousa of Salem, NH, two daughters, June Monahan and her husband Don of Milton, WI, and Carole Sancoff and her husband Peter Sancoff, Sr. of Derry, eight grandchildren, Shane, Timothy, Heath, Jennifer, Peter Jr., Alex, Julie and Suzanne, also six great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service was held on Saturday July 2, 2011 at 10:00am at Cemetery on the Plain, Ministerial Rd., Windham. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry handled the arrangements.
