Obituary

Mary Ella Conley Parker, age 97, formerly of Glen Oak Drive, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in Richmond, Virginia.

Born December 15, 1913 in Rhine, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late George G. Conley and Glennie Moon Conley. She lived her early life in Rhine, Georgia and then moved to Danville where she worked as a school crossing guard for the City of Danville Police Department for 12 ½ years. Her husband, Felton James Parker, predeceased her. Mrs. Parker was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for 25 years and was a member of the Chapel Bible Class and Circle #3, and was a charter member of the Good Samaritans Club.

Survivors include two grandchildren: Donnie Corbin and his wife Brenda of Richmond, Virginia and Ricky Corbin and his wife Debbie, also of Richmond; ten great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Willene Parker Corbin, a grandson, Freddie Corbin, and four brothers, Johnny Conley, Ira Conley, Raymond Conley, and G. W. “Buddy” Conley.

Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Frederick Vicks and Rev. Rick Dill will be held at Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church Chapel on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with interment following in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
