Obituary

Alfred Carpenito, of Medford died peacefully Saturday evening at the Mt. Auburn Hospital. He was 96.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and the late Francesca (D'Amore) Carpenito. As a child he lived in Italy with his family and later returned to the United States. He served in the US Army during World War II and participated in combat in North Africa, Italy and Germany. When he returned from service, Al established his produce business, Yankee Boy Tomato and Banana Co. He operated in Boston’s North End and later moved to the produce market in Chelsea. Al posesed a strong work ethic and kept his business going strong until his retirement in 1984. He was a devoted family man and shared a special bond with his grandson. Al enjoyed good times with his friends, especially at the horse track. He was also a dedicated fan of the Boston Braves and stayed loyal as the team moved to Atlanta.

The beloved husband of the late Mary (Genovese), he was a loving father to Marybeth Mercier of Medford and the cherished grandfather of Jonathan Alfred Mercier of Medford. Al was a dear brother to Alice Pagliuca and Ernest Carpenito both of the North End and the late Mary Santaniello, John, Phil, George, Carmen, Julia and Louise Carpenito. He also leaves many dear nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, June 29th, at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Tuesday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
