TEWKSBURY - Nancy A. (Hernon) Melito, age 73, died at Epoc of Norton, nursing care facility in Norton, MA, on Monday morning, June 27, following a brief decline in health. She was the high school sweetheart, and beloved wife for 53 years, of James V. Melito Jr., who preceded her in death on September 9, 2010.
She was born Boston, June 30, 1937, the only child of the late Peter and Lillian (Meehan) Hernon. She was raised in the Roxbury section of Boston, and after her marriage lived in Norton until moving to Tewksbury in 1975.
Nancy worked over 40 years for the Commonwealth of Mass., the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife including 25 years as the Assistant Director of Fiscal Affairs while also serving as Civil Defense Coordinator for the agency. She was a member of the American Canadian Genealogy Society, Manchester, New Hampshire and the New England Historical Genealogical Society, Newbury St., Boston. Nancy researched and developed several ancestry databases and authored numerous perceptive as well as entertaining family histories.
She and her husband enjoyed camping in their family trailer and had traveled the East Coast, from Key West to Nova Scotia, Canada. Since retirement, she enjoyed researching her family genealogy and scrap booking.
She was a member of St. William's Parish community in Tewksbury.
She is survived by three children, James D. Melito of Derry, NH, Joseph W. Melito of Concord, NH, and Nancy A. Lebeau and her husband Kevin of No. Attleboro; a granddaughter, Ashley A. Melito of Derry, NH; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Brenda Arsenault of Easton, MA.
She was also mother-in-law of the late Dana (Sheridan) Melito, and grandmother of the late Michael F. Limosani.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, July 1, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth, NH Memorials to the Michael Limosani Memorial Scholarship Fund 19 Claire St. Tewksbury, MA 01876
