Louise Soyars Dodd, 79, of 297 Duncan Drive in Danville, VA went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 25, 2011. Born September 14, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Lacy and Willie “Jack” Soyars. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of Vandola Baptist Church for 63 years where for many years Mrs. Dodd taught the beginners Sunday School Class and worked with the Acteens. She loved working with children. She retired from Stoney Mill Elememtary School as a Teacher’s Aide after 27 years. She was known to all by her loving care and compassion for her family as she took care of them in their time of need.
She was predeceased by her first and only love her husband, Reginald Dodd, married November 19, 1949 who died June 23, 1955; two brothers, Thomas Soyars and Jeff Soyars; a sister; Helen Soyars Scearce; and a special brother-in-law, Melvin Scearce.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Mae Dodd of the home; one granddaughter who has been the joy of her life for 13 years, Jacquelyn Mei Louise Dodd also of the home; two nieces, Ann Weatherford (Ashley) of Hanover, VA and Tammy Curling (David) of Lynchburg, VA; two great nieces, Michelle Helms and Nicole Stargardt; four great-nephews, John Weatherford, Daniel Curling, Andrew Curling and Benjamin Curling; six great-great nieces; one great-great nephew; and other extended family members, Annette Tarpley and Marcia and Rick Lancaster.
Funeral services will be held at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 28, 2011 with Rev. Rick Lancaster and Dr. Scott Bortz officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, June 27, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the home.
