
Somphou Phannavong, 75, of Woonsocket, died Thursday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Chanthay Phannavong.
Born in Laos, he came to the United States in 1980 and settled in Woonsocket. He remained a resident of the city for over 30 years.
Mr. Phannavong was employed at ACS Industries Inc. in Woonsocket.
He enjoyed fishing and tennis as well as trips to casinos.
Somphou will be remembered most of all for his love of family, especially his grandchildren.
Somphou recently enjoyed a trip to his native Laos where he was able to reconnect with many family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Phoumany Phannavong of Woonsocket, four daughters, Diana Sihavong, Phonesavanh Vongsamany, Cassandra Phimmahom, all of Woonsocket, and Manivone Sengsouvanh of South Carolina. He was the father of the late Meksavanh and Phetsavanh Phannavong. He is also survived by many grandchildren and his extended family in the United States and Laos.
His funeral service will be Saturday, July, 2, 2011 at 8:30 am in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Following services the funeral procession will depart for Swan Point Cemetery, 500 Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
