John D. Stewart, 87, of Sherborn, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness.
John was born April 17, 1924 in Wellesley, Massachusetts to the late William and Mary (Morrison) Stewart. He lived in Sherborn for 58 years. John served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. John retired in 1990 after working for Fraser Engineering and AJ Felz, both in Newton. He was a very active member of Pilgrim Church in Sherborn and he was a devoted family man who was adored by everyone who knew him.
John was the beloved husband of Ruth (Cowern) Stewart of Sherborn. Devoted father of Cindy Stewart Laakso and husband Brian of Medfield, Martha Stewart and husband Jay Young of Winchendon. Cherished Papa of Dylan Smith, Brandon and Skylar Laakso, Natalia Wellman, Danielle Stevens and her husband, Jim. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers James, David and William and sister Mabel Stone.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend John’s memorial service at the Pilgrim Church, 25 South Main Street, Sherborn, on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 1PM.
