New Bedford – Irene (Chace) Silva, 76, of E. Freetown passed away June 23, 2011 at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital. She was the wife of John L. Silva.
Mrs. Silva was born in Freetown, daughter of the late Ernest D. and Mary J. (Thomas) Chace, and resided in the town most of her life. She was a member of the East Freetown Congregational Christian Church where she held various church positions as well as being a longtime Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Freetown Historical Society, a former Girl Scout troop leader and an avid Red Sox fan. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her widower, she is survived by two daughters: Karen J. Lazaro and her husband Joe of New Bedford and Janet A. Bullock and her husband Donald of E. Freetown; a son: Stephen J. Silva and his wife Donna of Assonet; a sister: Nancy Chace of Freetown; two brothers: Merrill E. Chace of Falmouth and Malcolm A. Chace of Florida; four grandchildren: Corey Lazaro, Neena Lazaro, Jacob Bullock and Ethan Bullock; and several cousins, nieces & nephews.
She was sister of the late Thomas D. Chace.

Visiting hours on Sunday, June 26, 2011, 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the East Freetown Congregational Christian Church.
Interment in Chace Cemetery, E. Freetown.
